1. Look at the colour. Brass typically has a warm yellow-to-golden tone, but colour alone cannot confirm composition because finishes and plating can imitate it.
2. Consider the weight and feel. Solid metal pieces generally feel substantial for their size, although thickness, casting method and hollow construction can change the weight.
